Couple of weeks ago my husband asked me to set up an appointment with our rabbi. He respects our rabbi and wants to get his thoughts on our interfaith family. (Please know that I no longer push my beliefs on my husband because I’ve discovered the hard way that my efforts don’t work. I have learned to depend on the Holy Spirit for everything.)
Because my daughter is close to her bat mitzvah date, I’ve been loitering around our temple waiting for her Hebrew lesson to finish. Last week I dropped into our rabbi’s office and asked him for the meeting. Our rabbi is a warm man respected and loved by his congregation. Plus reformed Jews take pride in their open-mindedness and seek to be open. And so I was really discouraged and surprised to hear the rabbi disparage the message of salvation that Christians believe. I interrupted him and said let’s meet together with my husband. My mind and heart filled with doubts if I can handle being in the same room with two strong-willed, intelligent, Jewish men who oppose my belief and faith.
My husband’s work schedule was becoming very hectic and even he was losing interest meeting with the rabbi. As I was losing my desire to set up the meeting due to my concerns, I vividly recall the moment when the Holy Spirit spoke clearly to my spirit. I was driving and contemplating all of this within myself. Then suddenly the Holy Spirit interrupted my train of thought by saying loudly to me, “You must strike the iron while it’s hot!” My reaction was “Wow okay, but who’s hot? Definitely not my husband. Is it possible the rabbi is hot?!!” Friends, the meeting with the rabbi is tomorrow at 2pm. Please pray for our meeting!
Yesterday after my small group meeting I was walking out of church. This lady asks me in the lobby if I can drive her to a location nearby. Her car is broken but she had to come to church for an important meeting. The taxi service was very expensive. First I politely declined because of ‘stranger danger’. She smiled broadly, said thank you and walked away. But immediately I felt so strongly in my spirit to give her a ride. After a prayer for protection, I drove to find her. I found her and offered her a ride. In our time together she shared that she is a doctor in Kenya who has a medical clinic helping many people. She told me how she has learned to depend on the Holy Spirit for everything. Her country can be a dangerous place with great urgent needs. In our short time together she inspired me so much! I felt prompted to ask her to pray for my meeting tomorrow. And she did pray for me with such faith and power!
Friends, our God is for us and is on our side! He still wants to perform great miracles and healing amongst us so that all people will witness the power of our God through our Lord Jesus Christ. He desires to anoint us with the fullness of the Holy Spirit so that we can proclaim the message of the gospel with great boldness and discernment.
My small group is studying the book of Acts. The recorded stories of the early church fill me with great desire to see today’s church walk with the same faith, love and power that the body of Christ had once. We must learn to walk in Spirit in all things. I’m prompted to post this today and ask you to pray for our meeting tomorrow. Pray as you are lead by the Holy Spirit. Please check back in few days. I will add what happened in the meeting at the bottom of this posting. Thank you for your prayers! God bless you! -From the heart with love.
Acts 4:19-20 (NLT)
But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.”
