Over five years ago, I followed Jesus out of my city into the desert.* I learned so much living life with Jesus in this environment. At one point I felt like I would be in this wilderness for all eternity. Then one early morning, God through the Holy Spirit breathe into me a great promise. I believe it was four years when I received this word:
“God is not only the God of the desert, but also the God of the ocean, the God of the sky and the heaven. He will let you experience all these in time.”
I’ve forgotten about this promise. I’m so grateful that I wrote it down. God is faithful to His word. I believe I’ve finally moved past the desert. Because at this moment in time I believe I’m starting my new adventure into the ocean. I used to wonder what is the ocean like; what do you do there; what’s in there, etc. Well…I’m starting to find out. One thing that you do is fish!
God plans BIG! I believe He is setting me out on a quest for Moby Dick!! This morning at prayer time the word ‘Moby Dick’ came to me. In this classic book, seamen make a futile attempt to capture the giant whale nicknamed Moby Dick. I’ve never read the book but I googled that the story does not end well.
Who is my Moby Dick? Is it possible that it can be my beloved and popular rabbi?! Is this even possible?! You see, I have another meeting with him next week. However this time I got permission to bring my friend along who is also my co-leader of our small group. We are to discuss Isaiah 53 together. I have no idea what to expect. My rabbi studied world religion and he is super set on his opinions about Jesus and Christianity. Yet I know God is sending us out to him.
It’s good to see that God is sending others to help in my quest for Moby Dick. I heard the staff and leaders of my church are praying for our meeting next week. Praise God! This truly encourages me. Recently the Holy Spirit showed me a vision that I’ll be a bridge between my church and my synagogue. I’m praying that there will be dialogue and relations between the two sides soon.
Please pray for our meeting! It’s next Wednesday 4/20. I’ll post what happens after our meeting. Thank you so much for your prayers!
Here are few bible verses that’s keeping me going:
“Be determined and confident. Do not be afraid of them. Your God, the Lord himself, will be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you.” —Deuteronomy 31:6
Matthew 4:19 (EXP)
19 Jesus said, “Come follow me [be my disciples], and I will make you [teach you how to] fish for people [fishers of men].”
Luke 1:37(NKJV)
For with God nothing will be impossible.
Zechariah 4:6
‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts.
Judges 6:34
the Spirit of the Lord clothed Gideon with power.
*This verse sums up what occurred in the desert for me:
“Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her. There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. There she will respond as in the days of her youth, as in the day she came up out of Egypt.” Hosea 2:14-15
4/23-
Our meeting occurred on 4/21 because my rabbi had to officiate a funeral. The extra day turned out well because it added anxiety and so, it made me ask for more prayers and to seek God more. In this place the Lord gave me clear instructions. He guided me to study closely how Jacob approached and appeased Esau to make peace with him. It’s on Genesis 32 and 33. Jacob wrestled with God in prayer. Jacob used his intelligence to send lavish gifts to Esau ahead. Likewise, we prayed and received many prayers. I blessed my rabbi with generous notes of appreciation before and after our meeting. I’ll continue to use this method because the Holy Spirit has been leading me to serve at my synagogue and to interact with members more. I’m realizing that this place is my mission field.**
I believe firm foundations were shaken from our meeting. My rabbi resisted and stood firm in his beliefs but I see now that he is a ‘weary’ Moby Dick. After his son’s death two years ago from brain tumor, he hasn’t been the same. He’s weary and severely wounded. I don’t believe debating is necessary at this moment but only love. He needs God’s love. May the Lord continue to use me to demonstrate the love of Christ to him.
These words were spoken to me through my dream while in the desert:
“If you want to see Jesus, make it a mission ‘to do’ love.” Perhaps this is the most powerful way that my rabbi and my family members will see Jesus…perhaps that’s why Paul said love is the greatest. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+13&version=CJB
I’m so thankful how the Lord encourages me along the way in my mission field. I grabbed a retired prayer book that the temple is giving away. I’m not kidding. The prayer book is dedicated to a man named ‘Israel Saver’. I’m believing that Jesus, our ‘Israel Saver’ has chosen this moment in time to save my rabbi and my temple. Please pray! Thank you!
**I’m guided by these bible verses in my mission field:
Colossians 4:5-6
Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.
