Bible Verses for Depression and Anxiety + Cults + Q and A by pastors on variety of topics

Hello I just shared these resources with my prayer group ladies. I hope they help you too. I was searching for a document in my laptop and while I was looking I came across these old documents. They are bible verses that I compiled for depression and anxiety. I remember I would carry the print-outs with me in my bag and whip it out whenever I felt sad or anxious. Lately, as life and world events get too overwhelming, I need to carry these print-outs with me again, and read the verses throughout my day. I hope these bible verses help you too. I’ve attached them to this email for you.

Netflix’s Explained on Cults:

If you have time, please watch this episode from Netflix about cults.  It is 30 minutes long.  Why educate yourself on cults?  Because from my readings on God’s past revivals, there are always in tandem with many cults emerging at the same time.  This Netflix episode did a nice job with their visual charts explaining the classic cult traits.  You will also be surprised to see how normal, smart people fall into cults.  Please pray ahead that we and our family members will not fall into deception by deceiving spirits and people who appear to be good and holy.

When I started attending church regularly and frequently at PAC, Howard thought that I had joined a cult. (I think he is still very suspicious even today, and so I do have to be mindful for his sake.) I remember I also wondered if perhaps I had joined a cult and if I should back off from PAC. This is why I am conscious about cults and wanting to make sure I am not in one. Haha. I’ve been attending and actively involved in PAC woman’s ministry for 12 years now, I am certain PAC is not a cult. Once you see this Netflix show, you will understand classic cult traits. By the way, PAC is part of the Christian Missionary Alliance group if you want to check out our head parent group. https://cmalliance.org/who-we-are/

Cult Warning ⚠️ A friend told me about this ministry group that appears similar to a church like PAC, but it seems to be a cult. Since they recruit from universities and many of the kids in our group attend colleges, I want to inform you so you can be aware about this organization. I also included a story of a student from Georgetown University who got involved with this church, so you will clearly see that they are cult-like, even if their methods seem to be good and right at first glance. There is a Fox News report about this church group that I haven’t seen but you will find it in a Google search if you want to watch it. It seems this organization is still very active and growing internationally. Their main leader is also back in action after being kicked out for a season. Anyway this makes me nervous for college students. They have zeal and discipline that I think more churches need but it seems they have gone off the rail. We all have this religious tendency if led by pride and knowledge. We also need a good balance of love and grace. I would just be careful and prayerfully warn if you see your family members or friends going to this church community. https://www.gotquestions.org/International-Church-of-Christ.html

Famous classic pastor, Charles Spurgeon said,“Discernment is not a matter of telling the difference between right and wrong; rather it is telling the difference between right and almost right.” This is why we must study our Bible continually, both the Old and New Testament books so we can be very astute and discerning so we don’t fall into any deception traps.  I also think cults can be more than for religious groups; I think cult-like groups can extend to business, political, social and national groups too.  So it pays to understand beforehand the traits of a cult group.  They seem to follow similar characteristics and rules.

Q and A by pastors on variety of topics: My friend shared this really good interview with pastors of a church in South Carolina. They answered variety of questions fielded by their congregants, both adults and children. It was fun to hear their answers. I especially liked learning about the differences between Catholic and Protestant bibles. I’ve never read from a Catholic bible and so it was very interesting to know the key differences. They also did a nice job visually explaining the Trinity too. Please listen to this Q and A. They cover a wide range of topics that many believers have questions about.

I hope you will be blessed by these resources with encouragement from the Bible verses to combat depression and anxiety; discernment and a heads-up about cults and this cult-like church organization targeting college students; and blessed by Q and A by these smart pastors from South Carolina. With love and prayers from your “librarian”.

Romans 8:38-39 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

1 Peter 4:12-13 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.
