Update on Alex

This is an update on Alex that I shared with some friends and ministry leaders who I asked prayers from. Ever since I have been leading prayer meetings, it has been a pet peeve of mine to not get updates from people who asked for prayers. I know life gets busy and sometimes the answers are not always quick to receive but I think it’s important to keep others informed with positive news along the way since they are also contending for their own faith and waiting on their petitions too.

Hello friends! I’d like to give you an update about my Alex. First of all, thank you so much for holding me and my family up with your prayers. It has been the toughest battle I’ve ever fought since I became a mom.

My sweet and cooperative Alex turned into a scary person overnight.  Eating disorder was only one symptom of her sudden transformation which I shared with you.  Therefore, I sensed that it was a demonic entity who took control over her.

With all the prayers that have been lifted up for my children in the past 12 years individually and corporately; I felt very dismayed, confused and overwhelmed.  Yet I saw that this greatest trial of my parenthood was not a surprise to God because He strategically surrounded me beforehand with reinforcements, before it became evident to us how serious her issues were.  Thank you for being there for me when the Holy Spirit prompted you to come and assist me.  Your prayers held up my faith when it was faint.  I also did not abandon my posts in my parent leadership position at the high school and leading our local mom’s in prayer group.  (I would have if I received a green light from the Lord but since I did not, I carried on – barely at times.)

The Holy Spirit told me in the beginning stage of the battle for Alex that she will be delivered just like the Syro-Phoenician woman’s daughter was and that I will not be around for it. This gave me peace about sending Alex to college. I was hoping for a quick deliverance but it took much longer than I anticipated. In those days and weeks and months of waiting patiently for the Lord Jesus to deliver my daughter; I received your prayers and support. Thank you so much.

Alex continues to receive close supervision at her university’s health and mental care staff who specialize in eating disorders. Who knew her college had such a stellar program for eating disorders in their student health care system? With these professionals closely monitoring her and providing guidance about good health and mental issues, her mind is being restored. Praise the Lord Jesus!

She is also on a lowest dose of antidepressants and it has been helping her with social anxieties and depression.  I didn’t realize she had such bad social anxieties and the pandemic lockdown made it harder for people like her to emerge out again into society.  She is in her sophomore year and majoring in Finance.  She is more confident and stable as her mind is been restored with good, stable nutrition and of course, the Holy Spirit’s influence.  She is not a believer of Jesus Christ yet, but hopefully she will be soon.

Without regular accountability by her professional care team, I do think she will regress back and so, she will continue to receive good care at Indiana and NJ when she is home.  Many teenagers and young adults have developed severe eating disorders during the pandemic.  I now know too many facts and statistics about eating disorders.  ED mental illness causes the most deaths than any other.  Therefore once an ED is discovered, it must be addressed quickly and closely monitored by professionals.  However, there is a very long wait list for ED therapists and treatment centers.  I don’t know what families with limited financial resources do since most are out-of-pocket care and therapy sessions are very expensive in states like NJ.

Alex’s past visit home for Thanksgiving has been really nice.  Other than thanksgiving day where there was so much delicious food, I didn’t see her binging.  And it wasn’t as excessive as before too. She was engaged with all the family members and wasn’t distant at all.  She was like her old self – sweet and cooperative.  Thank you Jesus.  Moreover, I am still standing in my faith on Jesus Christ and my heart is still tender, not bitter or dismayed.  Thank you Jesus.  Just like the Syro-Phoenican mother, it has been so nice to have my daughter back, minus the demon.

Thank you for your prayers for me and my family. May the Lord continue to strengthen and sustain us in our trials since we are a tremendous blessing and covering for our children and grandchildren. Let us encourage one another to never give up and to keep on praying and believing. If your faith feels faint, please reach out to me for prayer and please stay rooted in your church community and friends. God bless you abundantly.

One day I look forward to sharing more publicly on how God delivered our daughter upon Alex’s permission.  I read a research article (pre-Covid report; I’m sure it is much higher now) that a quarter of college students in USA have eating disorders.  Therefore a few years ago, the federal government mandated colleges who receive federal funding to provide ED support for students.  Public universities probably have better ED resources than private ones which is good to know for parents.

Wow I was just scrolling through my Phone notes to find something, and I came across this prayer from CBN prayer person that I saved. I recall how horrible Alex’s mental state was when we dropped her off. How broken into pieces my heart was and the endless supply of tears 😭 that I shed.

Prayers for Alex by CBN staff, Jabez on 8/14/2021

Heavenly Father, our Savior and Support. Thank You that our comfort abounds through Christ and nothing in the world can bring us the comfort and peace that You alone can offer. We are praying for Sasha and her daughter right now.
Holy Spirit, we humbly ask for You to speak to Alexandra and be her Guide. We believe that You can see her heart and her condition. May You bless this child with Your protection. May she figure out how to be aware of how she eat foods. Lord, give this child Your guidance and wisdom…
Lord, we ask also that You would bless Sasha with wisdom, as she decides for her daughter’s future. Father, may they continue to seek Your will upon this decision making…
Lord, may Alexandra receive a therapy and counseling. Ready her heart and her mind with this plan. Let her meet new godly Christians and mentors.
Lord, thank You that we can always put our trust in Your hands regarding these prayer concerns…
We believe that Your plans are always good and we put our trust and our hope in the Lord Jesus Christ for this. You said in Your Word that, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging” (Psalm 46:1-3)…

May Sasha and her family continue to feel secured with You by their side. We surrender these concerns to You, O Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Jabez: : I hope this prayer ministered to you today, Sasha.

Jabez: : Please know that God’s plans for your family will always take place through His perfect time.
