Becoming a Political Activist

If you have been wondering why I’ve been inactive for a while writing, it’s because I’ve been super busy. I can’t believe this but I’ve become a political activist! Standing up and defending a good and honorable school leader made this cause very political in our school district.

God was preparing me months ago by having me discover the Christian journalist, Julie Roy who reports on the scandals of church leadership in the USA. I’d read her articles about the cover-ups by the powerful people in religious institutions and the silencing of their victims by them, and their board members who are loyal. That is exactly what is happening right now in our school district.

Two years ago, I was so excited to hear that both the new Superintendent and high school Principal were Christians. It felt like God was finally answering all our persistent prayers of many years for our school district. Our women’s prayer groups prayed for both of them so much. However it became clear to me that we have a situation like that of “King Saul vs David.” The Holy Spirit told me to be like a “Jonathan” for the principal. It was very difficult for me. Eventually, Jonathan had to come out publicly where his loyalty was. Like the Bible drama, I have been clearly revealing where my loyalty and support lies. The principal is a very good, godly and humble person like David. Whatever he does is incredibly blessed and a blessing to many. Whatever the superintendent has done only produced division, destruction and mayhem.

There is going to be another rally happening this Sunday. Please keep our rally in your prayers and that it’ll be highly attended, and a peaceful and impactful rally with much media coverage. Julie Roy, the Christian journalist tweeted once that the only thing that will cause a powerful Christian leader to step down is public pressure.

Please keep the parents in your prayers because it is going to take lots of work to keep the pressure on for a long time period. Thank you so much. I think it’s time now to reveal my identity to you. Please read the OpEd that I wrote to the local community newspaper to inform the public. Parents want to also do a BOE recall, and that requires public support. Apparently we have to be writing into OpEds weekly. There is another parent who will be organizing this so no one’s OpEd gets rejected due to many submissions that week. We are learning.

4/19/23 – The rally was well attended and we had local reporters covering the event. We also had a steady stream of speakers for two hours, including students! Praise the Lord! Weather was nice as well with good, nice clouds over us so we were comfortable. Once the rally was ending, I noticed the clouds moved away and the sun made the area uncomfortable.

Experts have been telling us that to get a school staff reinstated even after the hearing is very slim. These expert opinions have been discouraging to hear. However, I personally feel that to stop standing up for this good, godly sibling-in-Christ would feel like disobedience to my Father God for me. Therefore even if it has been very difficult for me, including the personal attacks that I have experienced, I will keep on being an Upstander for him. Moreover, the students know that he was outst unfairly and very harshly. Not doing anything will teach the young people to ignore unfairness and bow down to the higher power authorities without any resistance. Another tough struggle for me is the division this has caused our town community including some of my friendships. It has been hard.

I have to say now I appreciate the political and pastoral leadership more than ever. They must face criticism all the time! I’m sure after a while you develop a thick skin and become either hardened or humbled. I choose to stay humble in the grace and power of God through my Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

I don’t know what will come next of this saga. Please keep praying 🙏. Thank you so much!

One more thing – it’s a miracle and an answered prayer that my husband came out to the rally and supported me. Since I somehow became the person leading the rally again, I was too focused on moving the rally along but my friends told me that Howard was a very enthusiastic attender – clapping and hearing intently to all the speakers. He even bought a big megaphone during the rally since we were borrowing someone else’s smaller megaphone that didn’t project well for soft voices. Oh boy is there another rally coming up?! 😳
