MLK Jr + Resources for marriage + Dyslexia-friendly bibles + News media + Jane Robelot + Lee Stroebel

MLK Jr.

I signed up for an online course on Martin Luther King Jr. to read and discuss his famous letters, speeches and sermons compiled in the book “A Testament of Hope”.

I did some research on the lives and legacies of MLK Jr and Malcolm X. Both men gave their lives to advance the civil rights movement in America. However, their approaches were different and their spiritual beliefs were very different too. I also looked into their descendants and how they are today. Whatever works that we do in our lives, produces a fruit that our descendants will eat from. I came to the conclusion that MLK Jr chose the better way to combat injustice and left a better legacy or fruit for his family. That’s why I’d like to learn more from his writings. (I read that in 2027 the FBI will be required to release all their surveillance recordings on him. I’m sure there will be many more books that will be written about him once these recordings are released.)

Resources for marriage:

Whether you are married or not, it’s important to learn from those who have been married a very long time and are happily married. Here are podcasts by couples who have a ministry together and they share their experiences to help marriages thrive. I recommend these couples because they are very candid about their marriage struggles, and now work together to help others overcome their difficulties.

Jimmy and Karen Evans have been married for 50 years.

John and Lisa Bevere have been married for 42 years.

I learned that 70% of divorces are initiated by the women. Before you consider ending your marriage, please read Toni Nieuwhof’s book.

This devotional is a great reminder that it is super important who you are hanging out with in your friendship.

I vividly remember the time about 14 years ago, when God was telling me that I needed to step away from my close friends. There was nothing wrong with them in a worldly sense but they were not believers. I didn’t make any big announcements but little by little they stopped inviting me to their parties and get togethers, as I stopped pursuing our friendships. It was very hard at first but I had great peace because I had God’s approval. Nothing else beats God’s approval and support! With all the extra time that I had, I became a student of the Bible, read many books, and heard many podcasts and sermons.

Dyslexia-friendly bibles:

According to this article, 20% of the population is dyslexic. Wow. If you know of anyone who is dyslexic, please check out the new dyslexia-friendly bibles that were released. It’ll be a great gift.

News media:

I was looking at this new Gallup poll about Americans’ low trust in media news. Their findings do not surprise me.

Check out this daily roundup that I discovered and subscribe to. Because it’s Christian based, I love their scriptures that they use with the news story. Here is today’s newsletter.

I really like this Christian news podcast too.

I just learned that Jane Robelot, the former CBS morning anchor is a Christian. She shares her perspective on living out her Christian faith in a challenging industry of journalism.

Lee Strobel was a committed atheist and Pulitzer-nominated investigative journalist for the Chicago Tribune. I learned in this interview that he was the reporter who broke the news about the Pinto cars! I really love his books. I think my next read will be “The Case for Grace”. In this interview, he shares a lot of personal stories about working as a journalist before knowing Jesus Christ, and then after he became saved.
